VISION STATEMENT
"SPELD Qld Inc aims to help all Queenslanders affected by specific learning disabilities and difficulties by providing services to improve educational and learning outcomes."

SERVICE
SPELD Qld is a not-for-profit organisation of parents and professionals whose primary service is helping children and adults who have specific learning disabilities or specific learning difficulties.
Students with learning disabilities are a small group of students who, because of the neurological basis of their difficulties, have persistent long-term needs in one or more of the areas of literacy, numeracy and learning how to learn.
Students who are experiencing learning difficulties are those whose access to the curriculum is limited because of short term persistent problems in one or more areas of:
- Literacy
- Numeracy
- Learning how to learn
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
There are four aims and thirteen objectives. These aims and objectives are consistent with the purpose and vision of SPELD Qld Inc as stated above.
Aim one: to increase community awareness of the nature and implications of the problems that people with specific learning disabilities and learning difficulties experience.
Objectives one and two:
- To benchmark the level of community awareness of specific learning disabilities and difficulties
- To benchmark the level of community awareness of SPELD Qld
Aim two: to advocate by lobbying policy makers to provide the necessary support facilities and education opportunities to enable people of all ages with specific learning disabilities and learning difficulties to reach their full life potential.
Aim three: to maintain currency and disseminate research on specific learning disabilities and difficulties
Objectives three - six:
- To meet with the Education Minister once a year
- To meet with local members once a year
- To develop position statements on issues related to specific learning disabilities and learning difficulties
Aim four: to provide support and services for parents, professionals and other clients
Objectives seven - thirteen:
- Include the latest research in every magazine
- Offer community workshops that feature current research
- Run tutor professional sessions
- Run a biannual conference
- Collaborate with university research
- Maintain high levels of parent sales satisfaction with current services
- Promote assessment services

WHAT SPELD IS
- Not for profit organisation

- Run by a volunteer management committee
- Service provider – schools, universities, TAFE, individual and other community groups
WHAT SPELD DOES
- Gives knowledge and support about Specific Learning Disabilities – Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia and Dyspraxia. Receptive and Expressive Language Disorders, ADD difficulties associated with Specific learning Disabilities
- Undertakes a service agreement with Department of Education & Training every 3 years.
