Understanding Dyslexia and Literacy Learning - Stage 1
(Day one: 15 September 2016)
How do we learn to read, write and spell? Why do some students struggle to learn these skills? What do we understand about specific learning disabilities and dyslexia? The first day of learning for teachers and parents is to understand the learning process in developing the skills for literacy. There will be a clear correlation in the difficulties faced for many students and participants will learn to identify and understand the traits that are would suggest a dyslexic learner. When we have a more definite profile of the learner, we can then use the appropriate strategies and methods to assist the dyslexic learner. The first stage is to know what you are looking for!
Understanding Dyslexia and Literacy Learning - Stage 2
(Day two: 16 September 2016)
Now that we can identify the difficulties that the dyslexic learner faces, we can learn to use alternative methods and resources for assisting the learner, both in the classroom and at home. We will develop a plan to ensure that the learner works through a structured, multisensory and explicit approach to literacy teaching and learning.
What's good for dyslexic learners is also good for other students as well!
