Building Emotional Resilience
The course aims to address the role schools play in building and promoting resilience in children and young people. Resilience is the ability to cope and thrive in the face of adversity, negative events or challenges. In this course, teachers will learn simple and effective ways to enhance their relationship and improve emotional connection with students. Through these easy-to-learn steps to building teacher-student relationships, teachers will learn how to exercise relational approaches to co-regulating students’ emotions that will result in students gaining increased knowledge, understanding and acceptance of their emotions and building lifelong skills that will enhance their resilience, self-esteem and social and emotional problem solving.
Amanda Hicks has over 26 years experience in education in numerous roles and is a passionate educator and advocate for children, adolescents and adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. Amanda has completed 5 university degrees in education with her research into working memory and reading resulting in the RIP IT UP Reading Program. She is currently studying her 6th degree with a focus on Social Work.
Not only has she assisted over 10,000+ individuals with severe reading difficulties and disabilities learn to read, she has also been involved in educating and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students through their studies. Amanda has lectured to thousands of educators and health professionals across Australia & New Zealand on the importance of working memory to the learning process. Amanda continues to support NGOs, DCJ, schools, conferences, seminars and individuals with research and evidence based knowledge and intervention.
Dr Rachel Briggs is the founding director of Arise Health & Wellness. With a background in community health, acute-care, private health-care, rehabilitation and academic settings, Rachel's specialist area of expertise is working with children and their families across a range of presentations including anxiety, low mood, emotion dysregulation, anger management, trauma, issues of attachment as well learning and behavioural difficulties.
Rachel has a Master of Science by research in the area of paediatric neuropsychological rehabilitation meaning she brings a unique knowledge and experience in neuropsychological testing alongside her doctorate and extensive experience in clinical psychology.

Please note this workshop will be delivered online through the platform, Zoom. You will receive any handouts, together with the Zoom workshop link via email on the morning of Wednesday, 20 October 2021. If you have not received an email by 12:00pm Wednesday, please check your junk mail.
