Cognitive Load Theory & Explicit Teaching

This course will provide teachers with the latest research on Cognitive Load Theory and its impact on learning and teaching. The course will extend the participant’s understanding of working memory theory and will provide suggestions for explicit teaching across all KLAs. The course will not only provide theory but specific intervention practices that can be utilised upon course completion.

Amanda Hicks has over 26 years experience in education in numerous roles and is a passionate educator and advocate for children, adolescents and adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. Amanda has completed 5 university degrees in education with her research into working memory and reading resulting in the RIP IT UP Reading Program. She is currently studying her 6th degree with a focus on Social Work. 

Not only has she assisted over 10,000+ individuals with severe reading difficulties and disabilities learn to read, she has also been involved in educating and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students through their studies.  Amanda has lectured to thousands of educators and health professionals across Australia & New Zealand on the importance of working memory to the learning process. Amanda continues to support NGOs, DCJ, schools, conferences, seminars and individuals with research and evidence based knowledge and intervention.

Please note this workshop will be delivered online through the platform, Zoom. You will receive any handouts, together with the Zoom workshop link via email on the morning of Tuesday, 17 August 2021.  If you have not received an email by 12:00pm Tuesday, please check your junk mail.

1. Payment is required prior to the date of the Professional Development Workshop in order to secure attendance and is not refundable.

3. This workshop contributes to the 10 Queensland College of Teachers continuing Professional Development Requirements. You will receive a certificate on the day after the event.  
4. Certificates will not be issued to participants if a School / Organisation has not finalised payment by the day of the Workshop. Once payment has been finalised, the certificate will be emailed to the participant.
