Embedding Grammar across the Curriculum

An understanding of grammar makes it easier to correct students’ oral and written language errors. The research also shows that it improves the content of students’ written work. This workshop provides an overview of key teaching points and strategies for teaching the different parts of speech. More importantly it discusses the importance of moving away from teaching grammatical concepts in isolation and the importance of showing students the connections between different parts of speech and provides a range of strategies for embedding grammar into other subject areas. This not only provides students with ongoing practice and opportunities to apply the grammatical concepts taught, but can also lead to a deeper understanding of the topic being studied.

Dr Lillian Fawcett is a specialist literacy teacher with over 25 years of experience and university qualifications in education and psychology. She has developed a range of spelling and reading programs based on well-research literacy acquisition and memory retention principles which has enabled her to successfully help hundreds of students improve their literacy skills. Numerous teachers and schools throughout Australia are currently using Lillian’s evidence-based Cracking the ABC Code programs.
