Workshop: 4D | Parent & Child - creating the connection

Staying connected to your child and their learning can be difficult when the challenges of dyslexia or other differences arise - especially when it comes to homework and learning for tests. Ensuring that your child knows that you understand and are willing to support them is critical for their self esteem and future opportunities as is actually knowing how and what to do. Focusing on aspects of reading for meaning, spelling tricky words and organising ideas on paper, this unique workshop teaches parents some of the “tricks of the trade” and gives them the opportunity to try them out on their children – while being supported by experienced teachers.

Workshop: 4D | Dyslexia Aware Best Practice - the new teaching paradigm

Principals, teachers, and support staff will gain essential foundation knowledge about dyslexia and how best to support students with dyslexic type learning needs. An extended re-run of the acclaimed sell-out introductory workshop run in June 2009. The effective and practical strategies covered fit firmly within the context of the New Zealand Curriculum and they will be cross-referenced with the 5 Key Competencies and the new National Standards in Literacy.

Workshop: 4D | Advanced – achieving the 4D Edge

Fresh insights and activities will take participants to another level of confidence & understanding built directly off the experiences of the “4D | Dyslexia Aware Best Practice” workshop being run the previous day or the 2009 introductory workshop run in June. Reading, writing, and spelling strategies will be explored that are easy to use and engage learners – all with the new National Literacy Standards clearly in mind.

Workshop: 4D Interventions – beyond great teaching, unsticking the 4%

Participants in this course will already have a solid background of meeting the needs of dyslexic type learners with significant learning challenges. Phonic approaches, ITC solutions, assessment tools, and behaviour management will all be covered with a clear focus on small group interventions and strategies for students who have failed to respond to “notice and adjust” strategies in the classroom. (Participants would benefit by having attended 4D Best Practice/Advanced workshops)

Workshop: 4D | Leaders – creating change through vision and empowerment

For those in positions of leadership and influence, this powerful workshop will show how to use the principles of Dyslexia Aware Best Practice as a simple, cost effective vehicle for school-wide improvement. Insights, strategies and techniques shared by both presenters, will help with policy development, empowering staff, and allow positive change to unfold consistent with your schools vision and the New Zealand Curriculum.

Workshop: 4D | Pre-School – the ABC of early identification

This interactive workshop will enable those working with very young children to easily identify behaviours that “set alarm bells ringing” without attempting to label or categorise. Dyslexia awareness will be linked with the achievement of typical milestones to support participants to develop their “dyslexia radar” and to develop and implement simple and effective support strategies that will better prepare both child and parent for the transition to primary school years.

Workshop: 4D | Workplace – celebrating the difference, discovering the creative edge

At least 10% of any given workforce will be dyslexic to some degree and individuals will typically think faster than they read, write and get their ideas down on paper - at all levels of employment, from graduates to ground workers. This interactive and practical workshop will provide information and solutions that demonstrate exactly how you can help employees manifest their potential and add value to your business - from making bulletins and documents more accessible to policy that respects and empowers.
