Event Details

These holidays Glenda is running sessions during which students will play board and card games that will get them practicing spelling words and writing sentences in a supportive and fun environment. 

The Literacy games include reading and writing words and sentence from the Initial Code of the Sounds~Write program (includes for example, sh, ch, th, qu spellings).   

All the games are designed to be motivating, fun and to help the player experience frequent success as well as make new friends.  

Types of games:

Board games &  Card games;

Skills practiced:

• Reading words
• spelling words
• reading sentences
• writing sentences from dictation

Content & level of difficulty

• High frequency words
• Reading and spelling words in the initial code
  • Focus on unit 11
  • sh, ch, th, ck, wh, ng, qu, ll, le, tch
• Reading and spelling words in the EC:
  • Units 1 – 5 :  /ae/  /ee/  /oe/
  • Units 5 – 9 : /er/ /e/ /ow/

Maximum of 6 students per class.

GLENDA PILATOWICZ is a Speld Literacy Coach and Specialist Teacher. Over the last 30 years, Glenda has taught in mainstream, Indigenous and Special Schools. She is passionate about teaching students who, for any number of reasons, are find literacy and maths learning more challenging than the most of their peers.
